In my last article, I spoke about one of my own experiences concerning file sharing's role in CD sales.

What I failed to mention, was how I came into contact with another side of file sharing. And that is the role file sharing plays in Asia's thriving bootleg market.

In a Hong Kong HMV store, I purchased Tata Young's album "Temperature Rising" for HK$150 (approximately USD$20). I considered this to be a reasonable price, perhaps a little cheaper than the cost of your average album in Australia ...

At just 18 years of age, Henry Olonga made his Test cricket debut for Zimbabwe in a winning performance against Pakistan. He was a mainstay in the Zimbabwean bowling attack until his forced retirement in 2003, when he and Andy Flower bravely protested against the death of democracy in Zimbabwe. Afte...

Having read your article here reviewing Henry Olonga's album Aurelia, and then the topic in OT:
http://forums.cricketmx.com/viewtopic.p ... 697#p86697
I was interested to listen to Henry's vocal style.
I did this by going to:
http://cdbaby.com/cd/henryolonga

Always wary of killing my Winamp Playlist - I was able to listen to the generous samples in Windows Media Player.
I did this by selecting from the album tracks on the LHS of the page on the cdbaby link,
then selecting "other" in the drop-down of the dialog box.
Then the "up one level" button Image in the next box.
In Program Files folder, double click Windows Media Player/then wmplayer/ wmplayer.exe - appears in the dialog box (open with) then click OK -and you are away!!

I particularly liked Rise Again, One Is The Love and Someone For Me.
I always like listening to the lyrics of a song.
I felt there was a poignancy within these, of someone missing their homeland.
Perhaps - "One day with dignity restored once more", things will change. I hope so.

Louisiana based Network Foundation Technologies is trying to revolutionise the way video is streamed over the internet by using P2P technology, which reduces bandwidth. It doesn't sound like such a bad idea, they say users can download a video player a...

What does this statistic tell us? It tells us that the TV show producers are making a big mistake. Perhaps it is time producers start reconsidering the way they distribute their programs. One popular TV show, 30 Rock, had run its entire first season in the US before it had even aired in Australia - ...

Australia's recently elected Kevin Rudd government is seriously considering a "three strikes and you're out" policy for file sharing, senator Steven Conroy said to the Sydney Morning Herald. Some websites suggest such a policy is un-Australian as it reflects American baseball - I have to a...

This article has been given 6 diggs on http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Australia ... ike_policy, here was one of the comments it got:
fkr3 wrote:Some websites will suggest whatever it takes to play on your beliefs and generate ad revenue, but ultimately you're taking something you're required to pay for without paying and that has never been a part of Australian culture.

Giving someone 10 "outs" for filesharing is ridiculous. If you're caught three times and forced to shift ISP's then you're a ***** idiot who needs to quit being a dole bludger and get a job not a new ISP. Even three strikes is too leniant, what're you 5 years old? How many times do you have to be told not to do something you have no legal, moral or ethical justification for doing before you stop doing it? One warning is plenty.

How would people feel about other "victimless" crime being given a three-or-more strike process before there was consequences? How many times should someone working cash-in-hand while they're on the dole be warned? How many times should someone collecting multiple dole cheques be warned? How many times should someone driving without a license be warned? How many times should someone caught speeding be warned if they haven't harmed anyone? How many times should someone drink driving be warned if they haven't plowed through someone's wife or children?
Obviously the sarcasm censor wasn't on when he read my suggestion for 10 strikes and you're out

As has been mentioned so many times before, not only on this website but many websites and forums on the internet, you can't compare these so called "victimless crimes". To compare copyright infringement and drinking and driving is clutching at straws, at best. Another thing, if I can purchase music easily, I will. That is, if it is on iTunes and exactly the way I want it (I don't want a poor quality rerecording, search for "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks to see what I mean) then I have no problem hitting the buy button. One thing's for certain, I'm not going to go to this much trouble every time I want to buy a song

To most people, Sawdust would simply be another album full of new songs. Not the case. Sawdust is in fact an album made up of B sides to old singles, re-releases and remixes of the bands major hits. It really is just leftovers, hence the name "Sawdust".

What made this album special was th...

If you've read any of my previous Tata Young articles, you'll know that it's not easy for an Australian to support a little known Thai artist... well, little known in Australia anyway, from what I hear she has reached super-stardom in south east Asia.

South East Asia is the home for fake merchandise, particularly mobile phones and mp3 players. It was on a recent visit to the region that posesses me to speak out on the outrageous prices vendors are charging for imitation mp3 players.

I'm always on the lookout for a bargain, and Sim Lim Square in ...

The best part of browsing through the mail is seeing whether there is a letter from Google. I joined Google Adsense in mid 2005, when CricketMX was in its second year. The first letter I received from Google contained a small card welcoming me to Adsense and included a pin number which I had to ente...

For an album that hit number one on the charts in Australia, Canada and the UK, not to mention Argentina, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland and Italy, you would be excused for thinking that this album wouldn't rate as one of James Blunt's success stories. In actual fact, All The Lost Souls d...
